The Survival Guide To 14 Days Quarantine At The Mercure

While this blog is intended to cover the journey of in-house lawyer to running my own law firm, I can’t not post something about being locked in a hotel room for the past 13 days. On the upside it has given me the opportunity to really focus on setting up the firm. On the downside, the window doesn’t open, the food is pretty average and the carpet in the room sheds more than a sheep!

Sharing a locked room with another human being (my wife) for 14 days is a unique experience, but we’ve done pretty well. Daily exercise has been our saving grace, and I’m sure that I wouldn’t have gotten through quite so well if it wasn’t for a TRX, some resistance bands and a dumbbell.

After a one hour grueling workout, I even settled on a name for my firm and registered the website.

Strict rules helped us survive quarantine. Rule number 1 was “no fights”, rule 2 was daily exercise, rule 9 was no farts and rule 12 was to be nice. We followed most rules most days (except for rule number 3 which was to do daily yoga. I had such good intentions though).

I’ll miss the novelty of my little quarantine desk. Since my wife is the only one in full time gainful employment, she gets the good desk. That means my desk is two suitcases topped by an exercise step – perfect to get the creative juices flowing.
